Pearl, T-mobile, tethered modem

Newbie here. A T-Mobile CSR sent me a doc that describes how to tether the Pearl to a laptop. It was missing a key step, which I found on another BB forum.

The extra step is:
Go to Control Panel - Phones and Modems - Modems - select the port your BB is using (usually COM4 or COM5; go to Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager - scroll down to and click on Ports to see which ones are RIM ) - click Properties - Advanced - Extra initialization commands, then type (very precisely):
+cgdcont=1,,"wap.voicestream.com"

That worked for me. I'm using a Toshiba Tecra laptop running Windows XP Pro.

Sorry I've gotta run - I'll try to edit these directions later so they make more sense.

You guys are totally awesome!!! All I wanted to do today was set up my laptop's internet to run using my phone modem - Between "nrcapes" original post and "avelazquez1" additional instructions for Tmobile customers, it worked perfectly! Thanks so much.

I never had to add the extra initialization commands, but today my phone would not connect. The instructions above included nothing new, but after adding +cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com" everything worked. Thanks!

Mine works just fine, I go through T-Mobile would you like a HoW-To?

I followed the instructions but still could not connect my pearl as a laptop modem. Q: the user name and password requested to connect; is this my t-mobile info or should it be left blank?
anyone?

I wouldnt normally need this feature since I could just browse the web on the phone itself as long as I dont need to download anything, but Id like to try it anyway. But before I do, is there any sort of extra charges that I will get for using it this way? I have unlimited internet access on it, but will it use up minutes or anything like that?

ram no there will not be any charges as with tmo us it uses data as long as you have umlimited data you are good!
pirahna, yes it's legal and I use mine all the time @ work, cause my boss won't put in wireless.

guys, I set-up my pearl to use with bluetooth, everything looks fine except I keep getting error 633. I looked around and no one seem to have this problem or solution to the problem any ideas?

setup my macbook pro last night. worked perfectly fine. but all day today, i have been unsuccessfull at connecting. it says connecting, then authenticating user and then disconnecting. went through all the settings again, everything seems to be in order. have no clue whats wrong. will the mac users tell me if they can connect all the time? or is it inconsistent?

Exactly! Very inconsistent!
Sometimes it works flawlessly and other times I can not hold a connection for more than a minute or two. As I move around the country it is different everywhere.
I use it on my iBook G4, when I can.
just make sure you have your Bluetooth preference on the BB set to "accept always" otherwise it is waiting for an answer and will automatically disconnect on you.

I used the Fibble.com script and set Mac OS X 10.4.9 up under internet connect.
Sorry I don;t have more to offer you.
