Pearl is dying, how should I proceed with Customer Service?

My pearl (about a year and a half old) seems to have a hardware problem. It still works, but with considerably compromised operation. My question is how do I best convert from this malfunctioning pearl to a new 8120 if I can hold out until the rumored Feb 18th release? I have insurance--is there any chance that my deductible would get me into an 8120? My girlfriend's phone (which I bought and whose bill I pay as part of my plan) is certainly up for an upgrade. Might I have better luck trying to apply that upgrade to my phone? Is that possible? Don't worry, I'm not being a jerk, she's totally anti-technology and couldn't care less what phone she has.
Any help or advice on what to do would be greatly appreciated--I'm dying a thousand deaths with this crippled phone!

If you use her upgrade and then transfer her phone to your number she can still use her old phone until your upgrade. Call customer service and they should be able to advise you. They still get their money. What carrier are you with?~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

Thanks, firegeek. I'm with T-mobile. I was hoping I might be able to cash in on all this insurance I've been paying and maybe get an upgrade at the same time. I'm guessing that's a long shot.

Actually there is a way but it might not include integrity. All I will say is the following. Your insurance covers not the phone you bought but the phone number. Since your sim can be placed in any phone, technically the insurance will cover whatever phone you can get your hands on AS LONG AS THERE IS A CERTAIN TIME OF USAGE ON IT.. So therefore, if you happen to obtain a curve by some means (borrow, trade, purchase) and have usage on said device for a few days and then it happens to get "stolen". You can then file a claim and t - mobile will reimburse you for said device provided it is not being used on another account. Therefore NO usage can be placed on that phone untill reimbursement is given. So hypothetically its possible to get paid for a curve or other pricy device, but again, a bit risky and complex.

Your insurance will most likely not cover the phones apparent hardware problem. I am with VZW and we did the same type of thing that I mentioned on another phone. After she used it for a while we able to upgrade her phone. Then we switched it a couple of weeks later, saying she wasn't happy with it, and then when I had my upgrade come up I gave her the upgrade on my account.
