Hello,
I have always had seasonal allergies and have had tmj for years. One month ago I began taking a medicine with a peanut oil base and started a rash, and itching. With a doctors suggestion, I stopped for 4 days, and it went away. Started again and this time the itchy throat, tingly lips and tight chest happened. So I stopped. Two weeks later I tried pine nuts which I have had in the past and bingo the same thing. A piece of dark chocolate produced the same results. I made an appointment with an allergist in March, but wanted to know if there is anything I should expect or ask when I get there. Also, at a restaurant this week, I had bread and my face flushed and my nose was very itchy for an hour later. I wonder if there is a connection. I cannot wait to see the allergist, as I am nervous about all kinRAB of food now. I just hope they dont' put me on all sorts of meRAB, I really hate that idea. My sinuses are killing me at the moment and I cannot take anything until the visit, UGH!

Thanks for listening.

I would just simply stay on an antihistamine until you can see the doctor. Zyrtec once a day might be helpful.

I had oatmeal raisin cookies with pecans. Never, ever had a problem before. I had them Friday night without any reaction, then, a few more yesterday and one today. Last night I was so itchy and the same today, and now a rash. Could this be a delayed reaction, since it was a small amount? UGH!!!

It could be. I would avoid all nuts for a while, then see how you feel. If you truly are
allergic to them, your reaction will get steadily worse each time you consume them, so be careful. You don't want to end up with full blown anaphylaxis.

Thank you. I am trying really hard to avoid all nuts, but it's so hard, I really love them. Luckily, I have tmj and the nuts can hurt my jaw anyway, so that part is easy, just having them chopped into things is tough to do without. I appreciate your help.

Allergies can be so tough. As child I had taken penicillin many times with no problems. Then one day at age 16, one shot and was in anaphalaxis before I knew it. Switched to erythrimycin for years with no problems. Then at age 55, boom - blisters around my lips and temperature spike. You just never know...

Thank you, It's odd to me to start this now and at times I just want to try to be sure, but I guess the scratch test told me the truth and I should leave it at that. It's just on days when you feel fine, you just can't imagine it is a problem.
