I built this machine about 1 1/2 years ago, and for about 13 months it worked quite well. I have not asked anyone yet, simply because I thought it was something I could fix. After a while I have given up and have been reinstalling Vista every time the issue arises. I have the drive partitioned so I don't lose my things and format the windows partition frequently.

The problem is that when I open some applications, or sometimes when I use random applications the whole PC slows down dramatically. The pointer will jump from place to place as I move it and the screen refresh rate goes down a HUGE amount. I basically lose control of the PC. This happens playing World of Warcraft, Windows Live Messenger and IE/Firefox.

Another problem I have is that my power supply seems to overheat a lot lately. I will smell electrical burn and sometimes the PC shuts off.

Specs...
2g ram
250g HD
Vista Home Premium
AMD athlon 64 X2 Dual Core processor 4600+ ~2.4ghz

Any help appreciated.

Graphics card---
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT

And if Ive downloaded something dodgy the formats will have removed it. Thanks for trying though mate.
Im going to favourite this and come back later. If the issue happens I will try to give a detailed explanation as to what happened. Any help is appreciated.

i think the your graphic card is not so powerful to run World of Warcraft and you have downloaded other things from some dodgy website or you don't have a proper internet protect i.e. antivirus etc.
