Pc takes a long tome to load from windows startup screen?

My computer has been fine before and has been very fast but when I tried to start it up recently it takes a very long time on the loading screen. There is nothing in the drives or any memory sticks on. The only thing I can think of is that I've had this problem since I upgraded msn. Could that be the problem
