PBS: "Artopia" Series Talkback

I just saw someone on GameFAQs talking about this new show on PBS called Artopia, and seeing as the first episode is posted on their website (http://www.thirteen.org/artopia/watch.html), I decided to check it out. All I can say is color me impressed! The concept of a world based on the artwork of different cultures is a decent one, the acting is serviceable (though the accents, oy...), but the animation is where it really shines.

It's Flash, so you know, but I loved the wide spectrum of movements the characters displayed; seriously, they were so kinetic and fluid and moved in so many different directions and viewpoints. I've never had too much of a problem with Flash shows myself, but I can definitely see the show is on a new level of execution; I'd go so far to say that it beats many of the traditionally-drawn shows of today in terms of raw movement. From what I've seen so far, I have high hopes for this series.

So, watch and discuss!

Neither of the two PBS stations here seem to carry the show. For that matter, even the station that's hosting the video does not seem to actually have the show on its schedule. Did it not start yet?

Art appreciation... that's an interesting aspect to tackle, and I can't think of any other kids' shows that have put much focus on it. Or I've forgotten them if they were there.

And if a lot of adults are like me, we also can get a good bit ouf of this show. I'm kinda' an "art dummy," and while I may already know the words of WordGirl, or the math concepts of CyberChase--neither a bad show, mind you--this is something I can even learn from!

And it was a pretty engaging way to do so. I'm not at the point of saying it's the greatest show ever from that one episode, but I'd certainly watch it again.
