Payment Issues with cellphone...?

I have an account with the cell network '3'. I opened an account earlier this year and signed up to a six month contract. The phone broke four months in and I stopped using it. They want 2months worth of bills totalling 54.50 (just the amount they automatically charge)

So I've just been ignoring it. They sent me letters and then one from a collections agency saying if I don't pay it soon I'll have to pay a penalty for closing the account.

I know if they wanted to they could make me pay it because I breached the contract but now I just won't because I had tried to close the account when the phone broke and they wouldn't listen...

What normally happens if you dont pay? Enlightened answers please.

They report it to the credit reporting agencies which hurts your credit. They sent the debt to collections and ultimately they sue you and win.

Just because your phone broke, doesn't mean you're not liable for the contract or for an early termination fee.

when your phone broke you should have told them. they probably would have replaced the phone or given you a discount on a new/used/refurbished phone.

my mom worked with collections for a phone company for a while and people would say "well. I lost my phone so I'm not paying" when they had "lost" their phone months ago.

you should have just called them when it broke, man. or pay it now.
