Hi,
currently I am with Starchoice and am contemplating a switch to Bell . I want to know if you can pay for NHL Center Ice or any of the other sports packages in monthly installments? I currently pay $25/month to get both Center Ice and NFL Sunday Ticket. You have to pay for 8 months so total cost for both is $200. How does it work with Bell? Do I need to pay upfront?

Thanks for the help.

I could be wrong, but the best they will offer I believe is 2 or 3 payments rather than all at once. Too many people would signup, watch for a while then cancel.

Premium sports on Bell are rather expensive compared to just about every other provider these days who bundle them all for about $30/mo with minimum 4 to 8 month subscriptions. Bell still charges for each sport package individually and they range in price between $150-$200/season. This is paid in 3 or 4 installments (so like $25-$40/mo for each sport taken over 3 or 4 months).

The only sort of plus side to this way is after 3 or 4 months, its all paid for the year. The down side is, if you're like me and take about 3 or so of the packages, (NHL, NFL and NASCAR) you pay about $549/year instead of the $369/year or so that you get the bundled sport packs (that usually include 3-7 sport packs for about $30/mo) from other providers such as Rogers, Starchoice and even Eastlink.

To answer your specific question, the price of NHL Centre Ice and NFL Sunday Ticket packages on Bell TV this year was around $190 each. (so close to twice what you're paying on Starchoice currently) Each package was billed in 4 installments of around $39 or so.

Thanks for the information Kloraff. Yes the NHL/NFL pack on Starchoice was a deal at $200 but Sunday Ticket had no HD offered. Center Ice has 3 HD channels. What does Bell offer HD wise for the sports packs? I will probaly get them all except for NASCAR. I am mostly making the switch to get MLB Extra Innings to go along with NHL/NFL then I'm covered

I only subscribe to the NHL, but the HD offerings for each package are as follows:

NHL Centre Ice - 4 HD channels at the moment
NFL Sunday Ticket - 6 HD channels
MLB Extra Innings - 6 HD channels

I believe the Nascar package will no longer be avialable.

Can't find any info on directv web site about it anymore so i'm assumming it is actually dead. Bell did send me in the mail the other day a nice thank you letter for continuing my subscription to it tho so i think i should phone them and cancel it before they start charging and not offering and it becomes a huge mess to try and get the money back.

I can't remember where I actually heard it, but I did see somewhere where it said that the Nascar package was not going to be offered anymore. I think it had something to do with the rights to air the races in the US being moved. I'm not 100% sure on that though. Of course Bell will keep these channels in the guide forever. Before the NHL season started, the Senators said they will not be doing PPV this year, but yet the two channels remain.

DirecTV holds the rights to it in the states and they've canned it because it was not cost effective. They've stated that they may run it in a modified format which may include the original format before it was taken over by DirecTV which was just the network feed on a dedicated channel and a couple of driver channels without commentary like it was in the past.

It still hasn't been confirmed if it will go this year and the DirecTV page just says check back closer to the start of the season. The Hot Pass logo's and any mention of it are gone, its just a link to Nascar programming now.
