Pay-As-You-Go US Sim Card?

All Seeing Eye

I will be in the US from time to time within the next year or so and would like to get a pay-as-you-go sim card for my SE K750 phone while I'm there.

A few questions:

-Where can I buy such a sim card (in the USA)?
-How much should I expect to pay for it?
-Is there a provider better than other ones? Do major providers sell sim cards without a phone? Or should I look into a smaller company?

Thanks.

My phone is unlocked.

So, will any major provider store just sell their sim cards or do you need to get a pay as you go phone as well?

I'm not what part of the US yr travelling to but I've been all over and the SIM cards I use were purchased in Miami. I'm sure if you really wanted to you could get a prepaid phone as well. I use a P910i and a K750i. In terms of signal strength I prefer the K750i though.

T-Mobile and Cigular are the two largest GSM Providers in the US:

I also found that Telestial has some really good prepaid plans demending on where you are travelling to. Here's a link to the US cards:

Also keep in mind that you will need a phone with GSM 1900 for urban coverage and GSM 850 for rural coverage. If you have a quadband phone or if you are sticking to metropolitan areas w/ a 900 triband you should be fine, but you really need that 850 band if you are going outside of the cities.

Actually both my phones were giving me isssues in downtown Chicago. Coverage was spotty at best. Much better in Miami though. Almos threw both phones in the river though.

I work and take classes in the Loop in Chicago and I use T-Mobile for my service. The only times I have problems with my reception are in office buildings, usually away from the windows towards the center and in elevators. I switch between the V3i and the 8801 and both seem to have pretty good reception. If I'm on the elvated train occasionaly I'll hit a dead zone while the train is moving.
