i have suffered with my back for 4 yrs i recently went to a pain specialist i have recieved his report after hie examination and he said my problem could be due to RADICULOPATHY could you explain what this means . many thanks Pat

It's another name for sciatica. There is a huge nerve that runs from the low back and down the leg. Radiculopathy is nerve pain along the sciatic nerve. The nerve pain is caused by something compressing the nerves somewhere in your spine, which in turn can cause pain, pins & needles, nurabness, other weird sensations. All of this can happen anywhere along the route of the sciatic nerve. It can happen along the entire route or just in spots. It can wax and wane. One day you might feel pain in one area and no pain the next day. Or you might feel pain one day, the next day nurabness, the next day pins & needles. Usually nerve compression is caused by disc herniations, bony overgrowth, vertebral slippage, sometimes by cysts or tumors & other things.

I imagine you must have pain running down one or both legs? Where is your pain located? Are you just having pain or are you having any of these other symptoms?
