past hookups and boyfriend?

This sounds like a dumb question since I'm not a teenager anymore, but I'm kind of just looking for opinions. Many of my past hookups used to be good friends with me. They are in my phone and still talk to me occasionally. He knows I would never cheat on him, but hates my past hookups so much that he wants me to go ahead and just delete them from my phone. I think it would end up having him lose trust in me if I don't delete them. Like "why do you feel the need to talk to them?" sort of thing. I feel like I'd be a total a-hole if I don't listen to him. However, I'm very independent and think it's a little overboard. He's not usually that jealous, and If I don't delete them, it will just bring up fights later when he finds out I still talk to them. He's a very sweet guy, and doesn't do this thing often. I don't still hang out with any of my past hookups either. Am I being arrogant for not wanting to delete them from my phone, or is he being immature about the whole thing?
