Jen R has left a huge list which I would think has been lifted off the Passport website (which is no bad thing)... I was under the impression that anyone who has known you for a period of 2 years or so is sufficient.
An old college friend did mine - no worries at all. Don't pay for it... doctor's surgeries will try to get you to pay a few quid for it (when most of them wouldnt know you from adam anyway!!!)... try your boss or someone in the company HR.
Given that one of those professions in the list is "journalist"... get a mate to start a blog... that should just about qualify them... or alternatively, give them a pen or a phone, that also makes them a journalist.
Look at the webpage given below... the pertinent sentence is near the top... "or someone of similar standing in the community"... this relates to the list Jen R gives... basically this is not an exclusive list of professions, merely guidance for the type of people.
So basically, someone with a job who isnt related to you that you have known for longer than 2 years... so the retired librarian is perfect, so long as they have known you for 2 years and arent related to you.
