I don't want to sound stupid on this, but my neighbors down the street from us are getting ready for Passover tonight, and they're complaining that their kids are getting a bit too old to be forced to ask the "four questions" every year and eat the same "traditonal teaching foods", especially since their son's bar mitzvah is next month(which they're also trying to prepare for as well)...
The parents believe that if the kids are really young(like from two to seven years old), then they can follow Passover traditions, but as they get older, they gradually get tired of eating the same kosher stuff in order to appease the elderly rabbi who always pays a visit to their home every year to ensure compliance...by the time their early teen years approach, the kids want to eat something else besides just the matzo(h) wafers and kosher grape juice...they want to try something else instead...
My neighbors are afraid to ask other Jewish families here on Y!A, for fear that their elderly rabbi will see this and get offended, so I was asked to post this on their behalf
The parents want to ensure compliance with Passover rules, but also appease their soon-to-be-teens' attitudes and appetites for other kosher stuff that THEY like...
Same situation during Hanukkah:the elderly rabbi pays a visit, wants to see the kids play the "dreidel game" over and over and over, but the kids want to play "Guitar Hero:Aerosmith" video game instead!
What to tell/reassure them?
