Passing pedestrians on a bicycle?

Are you required to warn a pedestrian when you're passing them on a bicycle? In Texas. I tried finding laws for this, but they were all related to cars passing bikes.
Some guy got mad today because I didn't say "Left." He was a runner. I passed him safely, as far to the left as I could go. The trail is about 10-12 feet wide, and it's in a park. It allows you to go fast, and a lot of people do. No trees, no turns...it's all wide open.
So I pass about 20-30 people every ride, and it gets pretty annoying to warn every single person. I do warn when they're riding in zig-zag or when I have less room to pass. I also slow down when I need to.
Did I screw up, or was his underwear too tight?
