paralized vocal cords

i just got out of the hospital, a trach was put in because i couldnt breath, they say i have paralized vocal cords in the closed position,i will see a specialist on vocal cords in a week after some soreness goes away, they dont know as of now what cause it, may never speak again is possible. anyone ever heard of this happening,

How traumatic. I have one permanently paralyzed vocal cord (in pretty much the closed position) which restricts breathing. I believe sometimes the condition you describe can reverse. What kind of tests did the hospital do?
