pants or shorts for hiking?

tomorrow i am going on a hike on a wooded trail and although i will be wearing pest repellent, i am really afraid of getting ticks on me so is it better to wear shorts or pants? i would like to be able to wear shorts because it will be hot but if pants would be better, i have no problem wearing them. thanx in advance
 
Double spray your shoes, socks, and ankles. Not quite chigger season, but better safe than sorry.
