hi:wave:....for the past year i have been suffering from panic attacks during this time i hav had 4or5 really bad attacks..the first one i took i had no idea what was happening and to be honest i thought i was dieing and having a heart attack..my syptoms are pain in my shoulder and left arm, palpitations, pins and needles in my hanRAB,shaking, sometimes dizzyness..i hav had ECG's done and heart tests and everything came back normal..iv been to my local GP and he has recommended counselling i really dont want to to get counselling because im a student and cant afford among other reasons..theres not a day that goes by im not thinking about having another one it scares me..was just wondering if anyone know anything about what im feeling or if anyone has the same symptoms as me...are panic attacks life threatning? or have any effect on your physical health..im 23...thanks ;)

Yes, I know how that feels and it sucks. Really. Just bam! Out of nowhere and you are off! Do you have any PTSD> Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? What happens after the waking up? Is your heart beating out of your chest and maybe you are in a sweat? It is hard to regain control isnt it?

It's just you waking up out of a deep sleep, even if you're just falling asleep you may be going into REM quicker than usual. It happens with everybody, but usually when it happens to me my heart will also be racing and my head feels extremely heavy while extremely tired.

Sure bro we've probably all had the exact same thing or very similar feeling you had. (To be honest I'm getting over a pretty tough moment myself in the last 30 minutes, I was struck with an attack)

No anxiety attacks are not life threatening. They are scary and horrible and I know feel like your life is in a dangerous state but people don't usually die from anxiety attacks.

So in the sense of young man like yourself just dropping dead from a panic attack, well that's just not going to happen. So you can get that concern out of your mind. You will not die from an anxiety attack I assure you this.

Good luck bro and stay strong. You Irish are tough people your not going to let a little thing like anxiety mess with your life. LOL!

God Bless

Yes, Thanks for the replies It is a horrible feeling i actually had it last night:(cheers for the replies again

You won't die from a panic attack unless you do something really radical while you are having it. You can, however, make yourself sick with worry. Worry causes anxiety. Do you see where I am going? If you continue to worry you will have more and more physical symptoms. Holding stuff in is also a good way to get an ulcer or IBS. There are probably some counseling centers for students like you that do not have the money to spend on a therapist. Your parents may still be carrying insurance on you and the insurance will pay for psychiatric care. A lot of students go to therapists because of their high stress level so don't feel weird or anything about going. Sincerely, searchin

Sure do get that feeling.

Actually the first time I replied to your text, I was trying to fall asleep and had rude awakening, kind of freaked me out a little more than usual.

And honestly it happens to me at least few times a week. What I do is call on God to take away the fear and the uneasiness that follows and he always does.

God Bless.

Hi..yeah im not really a religious person so i rarely pray but i do be sayin in bed at night oh god please go away lol.

i find what works for my anxiety is keeping active even if its just goin for a walk for 20 minutes..im lucky enough that my anxiety doesnt stop me socialising so i find being with frienRAB helps me a lot..it just takes my mind of my anxiety i think..i have noticed people have posted they are smoking a lot to try and calm down their anxiety smoking actually senRAB mine crazy:(

things i do for anxiety...walk,football,cinema,go out with frienRAB,snooker, play computer games, i think if you're to afraid to go out your anxiety just gets worse .in no way am i judging people who suffer from social anxiety who am i to judge...i think you just need to try over come it..easier said then done i know
