Panasonic Viera TC-P42X3 with an RCA Home Theater RT2906?

I have a brand new panny viera tc-p42 and i'm having issues. I tried hooking up a sound bar for external speakers, but it wouldn't work. I bought the new rca, it wont work either. I've used the digital audio output, turned off speakers, turned off viera link, and still nothing. Someone pleaseeeee help!
