Panasonic TZ8 movie recordings?

I just got a panasonic lumix tz8 camera....

I ride horses and i mostly use it for good quality video's which i wanted to edit on Windows movie maker....however today i've gone to upload the videos and it only works on quicktime!!!

How do i get it to play on windows media player so i can get it to work on movie maker???

(Whenever i try to play it on windows media player, it says i'm missing the codec?)

Please help, as it was a gift and i would hate not to be able to use it for what i wanted it for! it's a lot of money, to not use it the way i intended...=/
 
If your new camcorder is HD, do not convert it to SD so you can use that lousy program they call Windows Movie Maker. WMP does not play HD videos. For about $79 to $129 you can get NLEs that work with HD video very good. Just look to see and make sure the system requirements can be met when choosing a HD NLE.
