Panasonic hdc sd20 how to film in sd mode?

I purchased a Panasonic HDC SD20 but because my computer is taking a long time to import the videos I was wondering can I upload the HD videos by changing the camcorder seting to SD and is it posible to do so and how will and will it make it quicker? if not do you any other suggestions?
