What is Palmsource doing? Unbelievable...Palm OS rocks on the Treo...

Shares of PalmSource, the handheld operating system developer, dipped Monday on an investment bank's report that said key licensee PalmOne will--in addition to using PalmSource's product--begin using Microsoft's operating system for handhelds in its Treo line of devices.

PalmOne representatives disputed the contents of the research note, from Needham & Co. The note said that PalmOne "tacitly admitted" it was working to make Microsoft's operating system available on the popular Treo line of phones. The devices currently use PalmSource's Palm OS, and PalmOne is PalmSource's biggest customer.

Thanks for the heads up. I am a little shocked at this announcement. The article does point out that the Palm OS won't be ditched.

I am still wondering why palmOne is using the Pocket PC OS. Is it because they think nobody will develop software or hardware compatible with Cobalt?

This might be a sign of things to come. I certainly hope this is not the begining of the end for the Palm OS.

Perhaps you'll have the option of either/both.

Or perhaps they're all fed up with the T5 and os5.4 too . . .

Dell Axim. After both T3's bite the dust (and that might NEVER HAPPEN), I'll be taking a "95% favorable" look at the Dell Axim.

NO ONE posting on this forum has tried enough applications (if any) to convince me the T5 is reliable. If they're cheering over a calendar and a hotsync, I'm afraid that won't "do it."

I AM, HOWEVER, firmly behind the T3 as a terrific P1 unit . . . it's what's down the road that's troubling. To say otherwise would be to wear "blinders of false optimism!!"
