Palm Wi Fi Card

Hello, I am new to the site and did a quick search before I posted but did not find much info. Have any T3 users bought the Palm Wi Fi card? If so, what has your experience been.....ease of use, worth the $$, connectivity vs. other PDA options, etc. I mainly would like the ability to surf the web while travelling and check my email occassionally. Thanks in advance for any feedback!

I use the card in my 72 and E2. It is much slower than WiFi in the TX. Range and ability to hold a connection is the same as the TX. If you are even thinking about upgrading PDA's put the 100.00 bucks towards a TX. It would be like getting the TX for 200.00 bucks or less.

Don't take me wrong, the card does the job very well and I loved it when that was all I had. The TX has to be three times faster though.

Also, another advantage to the TX is that you do not have to remove your SD card to use WiFi.

Can i just comment. If i'm not mistakened the WiFi card does chew up a lot of battery on the T3. Acctually probably not just the T3 because the devices that support the card were not designed to be able to handle the high consumption over a period of time (as to bring price down etc.)

Just on the topic of Wifi, John, do you ever notice the back of your TX get slightly warm after using the WiFi radio for a while?
I have noticed it, also noticed while using the WiFi on my PSP.
I'm guessing it's the antenna heating up?

I've not used the TX, but i hardly used my wi-fi card with the T3, mainly because the battery life wasn't very good. You need a fully charged battery to have a decent session. A lot of people seem to recommend a battery sled or this, more $$$$. you could get a second hand bargain to try out. I sold my wi-fi card on in the end.

Yes, it gets warm. I think more with BT than WiFi though. I never really paid a whole lot of attention though. I always kind of assumed that some of it was also due to holding it while using WiFi and BT.

I think it's more WiFi than BT :p but that's nothing to argue about.

I agree with you for the 2nd section because it probably wouldn't heat up nearly as much if someone werent holding it because they air around the antenna would stay at a constant temp. (due to outside air being cool and air around the antenna being hot)

If you are interested I have an Enfora wiFi setup with integral battery for sale if you are in the UK. Worked well with my m130 until it terminally began to reset, didn't help the fact that I bounced it, maybe velcro in my top pocket is needed.

Cheers,

Hello I am new and instead for making a new thread on the subject I use this one :)

I have been using an Ericsson R380 Smartphone ( MobilePhone/PDA ) for reading work mail when I am on the road and surfing WAP for 6 years and it have never let me down. The only problem is the Memory it only have 1.2Mb and that I cant use the internet , so my company gave me an Palm Tungsten T5 and I am happy with it andi where sure that now I can use the Wi-Fi when I am at the airport waiting for the next plane and I don?t need to use my laptop anymore
but I where surprised to see that the Tungsten T5 don?t have inbuilt Wi-Fi and that I have to buy a Wi-Fi Card from Palm to make it work So before I gone buy a Wi-Fi Card for $99.99 I want to know if any one here have any experience of this card and the T5 I am a bit worried about it chewing up up the battery

Sorry if this is an newbie stupid question I am totally new on Palm :)

I have used the Enfora WiFi card with an M130.

Basically if you download the enfora web browser and use the infa red connection on your mobile to browse the web you get the idea. The difference is you get it much faster.

As for batery life, the enfora has its own battery that lasts for several hours.

If you want to see the spec of the portfolio search for enfora WLN1103 or else i can mail it to you since enfora has removed it from its website.

Cheers,

Just out of curiosity, what was it like browsing the web on your M130?
If i remember correctly it had a colour screen but not high-res/high-res+ (320x320/320x480)

Nilsson, for the T5 i dont think the battery life will be too bad as it is somewhat similar to the TX. BUT, it will mainly depend on how much you use it and how long per session.

I REALLY love the TX's battery, can go HOURS straight on the TX browsing the web!
Average day: Check agenda, check net for weather, play games, MP3, notes, games, MP3, browse net for misc., check email and sleep.... :p
+ i can do this for usually 2 days and the battery will be at about 30%. I could also go longer with slightly less use. I've gone 5 days max so far with a relatively large amount of use.

Going by these factors, i would presume that the T5, while not handling the card as well as a TX would, it would still prove to be better than most other Palm PDA's.

Hi Nilsson78,

I use a T5 and recently bought the palm wi fi card. Its great for surfing. My company uses a web hosting service provider for our office emial. I have set up VersaMail for emial retrival wireless. It works but there are ocassions were I get an error when downloading emails wirelessly. I than have to do a reset after which it works. But it does consume a lot of battery power. I've that my T5 for more than 2 years now. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. Also the back area close to the wi fi card gets heated up. Apart from that its great. Downloads are pretty quick.
