Palm TX and Palm m130

New to the forum, first post. I dropped my 3 year old Palm m130 for the last time Friday. It still works but the lens is now cracked. I purchased a Palm TX on Amaxon.com this afternoon to replace it. Question is and it's probably been asked before. #1 Can I sync the new Palm TX with the Palm Desktop 4,0.1 sofware & Hotsync software that's installed on my computer? #2 And or, will the new Palm Desktop software hopefully upgrade the old software without making a big mess of it? Help would be appreciated!

What I would do is make a backup of all your Palm software onto another drive or onto a CD then erase all of the Palm stuff on your main drive. then start with the new TX by installing the new Desktop software. Next reinstall any apps you had on the m130, and still want to use, one by one. My reason for this is that the TX can be very unstable if it has corrupted files on it (which you may have on your m130 and not even know it) or if you put incompatible apps on it. One thing to do to check compatibility is to find one of the lists on the web that shows which work and which don't.

I would also suggest getting an SD card for the TX then use a card reader to put all of your backed up apps onto the SD card. Then use something like FileZ to copy the apps from the card to the TX Ram one at a time. This makes it easy to do and undo and you will certainly want an SD card for the TX eventually if you don't already have one.

I would also recommend that you wait for more people with more knowledge than me to get their opinions. I am just stating what I eventually ended up doing (hard reset followed by a one-at-a-time reinstall). This has finally made my TX stable.

Note that all my experience is with the Mac. Just two folders to find and backup. One in Applications folder and one in Documents folder.

Gregte,

Thanks for the info. The Palm TX arrived Tuesday afternoon and I did as you suggested and the install went fine except that I'm receiving a small error message at the end of the log when I do a HotSync. I think it has to do with the Documents to go software.
