Palm T 3 switches on by itself

Since a couple of days, every time I switch off my Palm T 3, it switches on by itself after about 8 seconds and then stays on until the battery is dead after a couple of hours! When I do a hard reset it then stays switched off like it should be, but with doing the hotsync the problem is back. I have already erased all non-original Palm software, but that doesn't help. Does anybody have an idea how to solve this without the loss of all my data?

This likely due to a calendar bug described at http://kb.palmone.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,Kb=PalmSupportKB,ts=Palm_External2001,case=obj(26450) . The problem is caused by birthday reminder that crosses January 1. It's a silly bug and the only fix is to adjust reminders so they don't cross the new year.
