Palm Pre or HTC Hero?? (Any help appreciated)

We are in the market for some new phones and we are really trying to determine what would be the best choice of action for our needs, and the future of these phones (OS's)

We do "prefer" physical keyboards especially my wife as she has long nails and it is hard to type on a capacitive screen.

We do like the Pre a lot, enjoy the elegance of its OS. We are though troubled by the what if factor of going with Palm, seeing as they are in not so hot a position at the moment.

Our findings from in store use only (so they may not really be correct) is the Pre is snappier, and the display looks nicer.

Any input either way is appreciated.

PS The Samsung Moment is out of consideration as, for us, it is too thick a phone.

It seems you already prefer the Pre from what I am reading, but the Android platform the Hero is using has a much better future and application base.

Well, we have not spent as much time with the Hero yet (hoping to later today) The store we visited both employees owned Palms so we got to play with their phones, and go over the features. Next stop will be another store.

Basically just trying to see what peoples thoughts are on the two phones. Wish there was a mashup of the two to be honest that would be great lol.

The Hero has a future. Palm doesn't. If you don't mind lack of manufacture support and a developing platform, the Pre is probably your better bet. The Hero is a slick phone, and Android and HTC aren't going anywhere.

I think both phones are really good. The Moment is supposed to get Android 2.1 very soon so that is a good thing. If you are on Sprint? the are supposed to be getting Evo 4g in a couple of months which current specs blow anything off the planet. I don't think it has a physical keyboard though...
