I can really understand why you're torn. I would be just as torn.
I think Palm has a great email notification system. Both BB and Palm has great coopetition with Google.
Technically both BB and Palm has unified messaging systems and strong social networking support, although in my view, WebOS takes it a bit further in the way it handles email, different IM vendors, as well as things like Facebook contacts integration.
The question whether Palm will survive keeps hanging in my head. I think people are also concerned about company survivability when they think of Palm.
IMO, WebOS is the most advanced mobile OS out there, still a step ahead of Android 2.0, and clearly ahead of iPhone, BB, WinMo, Symbian and all the rest. This I take it by studying UI and notification features, social networking support and the programming model it uses. Its the first mobile OS that is a true browser OS, as apps runs on HTML5/CSS/Javascript as in browser code than Java or C++.
But I'm also a BB user, and I love the down to earth practicality and attention to detail the BB OS, along with the sensual look, touch and handling of their phones. I like the typing in these things. BB is not as advanced as WebOS but its very mature and time tested, and you have that sense of this thoughtfulness when you handle it.
I suggest this. Go down to the dealer and give it some time having a hands on on both devices and let yourself come to the decision. Let your mind, your emotions, your feel take over and decide what is really right for you right there.
