Palm OS on a Windows Mobile Device (PPC) !!!!!

Ok, here?s a pondering for you all. I?m sure some of you have read my concerns when the Treo 700w was released, BUT after settling down a little, I thought to myself, what if the tables were turned. WHAT IF, we were to port the Palm OS to a Windows Mobile Device (or PPC whatever you wanna call it!)??? Imagine that?! First of all, it?d be bloody hilarious, and second of all, it would help ease the concerns of most of us that Palm OS might not be around in the future ? particularly for those Palm OS Developers out there, but more so for the Palm enthusiast!

Does anyone know if it is actually possible to do this?? My logic is that, both PDAs use the same processor ? an Intel ARM Processor. From a business point of view, wouldn?t it make sense that the ARM processor uses the same type of board layout regardless whether it is being built-into a Palm OS/Windows Mobile PDA?? I can?t see Intel making two different types of ARM CPUs ? I?m just assuming that the processor would be in the same situation as its desktop equivalent ? all use the same motherboard, and all are capable of running x86 applications.

SO, seeing that Palm OS now is written to natively support the ARM processor (at least with Cobalt it was ? Garnet is apparently just compatible with it), I?d imagine that with a few tweaks and couple of people writing drivers, we could probably flash a few PPCs and make them run Palm OS!!!

The alternative of course is, seeing that PalmSource may struggle to get a hardware manufacturer onside after 2009, that PalmSource start selling its OSes as separate software items, and make them compatible for use on selected PPC devices ? just like we have a variety of OS options for desktops ? of course this also opens the door to piracy


What do you all think of this whacky thought?? Any flaws?? Is it possible?? Oh, and check out this other post and please make a comment!!

I haven't actually seen any Pocket PC running the Palm OS. However, I know there is a Palm OS emulator for the Pocket PC. I don't recall the name of it, but know it is being sold as a commercial product.

It might not be too difficult for developers to port the new Linux version of Palm OS to Pocket PC devices. There are already Pocket PCs running Linux. They would probably need a couple of hacks and a skin added to the Linux kernal.
 
I'm not talking about emulation ... I am talking about flashing the rom of the Pocket PC and then committing our trusty mate, Palm OS into memory! Not one trace of the wicked Windows Mobile should be left on the machine! Does anyone know if the two PDAs share the same sort of motherboard layout?? Like, it's not like comparing a Mac to a PC is it???
