Palm "killing" the Life Drive

PIC is reporting that the Life Drive is being given a slow death by Palm.

I'm posting this in the T forum because more will pick up on this and if anyone is contemplating an LD well this might push them over the fence or bring them back.

I'd like to see a TX with about a 6GB flash RAM in it's stead....now that would be a pretty good device. Bump the processor to 400mhz ala the T3's and bump the battery a little bit (I'd take the increased weight) and then I'd find $400 to buy one.

I never thought the LifeDrive would be a hit. The hard drive was being pushed to obsolescence almost weekly by cheaper and bigger flash memory.

Of course they are denying it.....they want to sell the remaining units.

All kidding aside - the LD is not a bad device it's just a brick.

Bring back a Palm V body with a T3's processor, voice recorder, the battery from a T5 and add wifi too it and Palm wouldn't be able to keep the units on the shelf.

But they are focused on selling Treo's. So here is my next prediction with what Palm will introduce in the way of a handheld this year: Nothing.

The nex gen of Treo is slated for Cingular (remember folks they are still the only major carrier without a W or P) so there are rumors and pics abound that they'll get the next whiz bang device.

There is also confirmations that Palm is supposed to be introducing an entry level Treo for non-corporate types....bare bones unit.

Doesn't leave much room for a new handheld.

But what I really want: T5/TX resolution color screen with a phone and just enough of a keyboard to handle dialing (12 keys - and you have one button that doubles as a function button so that you can use the 9 numerical keys as the normal function buttons), voice recording, replaceable battery, 8 hour talk time and 12 day standby with NVFS of at least 64MB (Palm), a micro SD slot to save space and a 1.3megpix camera.

Ok - you all think that I've switched over to smoking dope instead of beer but it could happen!........the device not the smoking dope part. ;) :)

So, Moose Man, you've been smoking beer again!!! No wonder you're still fantasizing about the elusive T3 / TX / Treo / Lifedrive hybrid which Palm have yet to design.

At the risk of sounding like an old fart (most people's description) I'm still unconvinced about the integrated phone/pda concept. However, if I am forced to go down that route then at least...

[offers little prayer to Palm]

...PLEASE let me have a 320 x 480 display!!!!!!!

You listening Palm?
