Palm Desktop Application Will not work

Attempting to load and hot sync with a new laptop
that is my secondary computer. My T3 hotsyncs fine with my primary desktop; and the desktop software works fine on my primary desktop. Problem is that the desktop program shutsdown om my new laptop as soon as I open it (only after I hot sync data to it) with the message " Palm desktop application has encountered a problem and needs to close". I contacted the Palm folks and they instructed me to reinstall the desktop application completely (with step by step instructions), which I did, but still get the same error.

Since the desktop application works fine until I hotsyc, I also tried to copy the data files from my primary computer to the laptop palm file, but then as soon as the desktop tries to open the data I get the XP error message. Yes I am using XP pro on my laptop.

Any Ideas?

I would suggest uninstall and then clear the registry of all Palm references.

Reboot the laptop after the unistall.

Pull up the task manager by using the Control, Alt and Delete keys. Turn off everything that's running except the power management software for the laptop, the system tray and especially turn off any AntiVirus or other Security software that's running in the background.

Then insert the Palm install disk and proceed as normal.

I'll lay odds that there is a program running the background during your previous installations that is causing some errant registry key issue and it will be related to security issues within the Windows OS environment.

The implementation of a hotsync can look like an "attack" and when the PalmDesktop exe is initiated it will think it's a virus or other threat and prevent it from opening. This can occur because of the registry not having the correct value or other anomolie.
