Palm Desktop and Windows XP Media Edition

I just read in a forum that Palm Desktop cannot run with Windows XP Media Edition. Unfortunately, I didn't know this before getting a new computer with XP Media. Have any Palm users (TX) encountered this problem and how did you deal with it? Thanks.

I have XP home media edition on a brand new Dell and I just set up my newTX earlier this week with the Desktop version that came with it (4.2). I have had no problems whatsoever. Works like a charm.

Mulletmans ease to ste up Palm Desktop on Media Edition is the exception. It can be done. From what I have read usually not as easy as Mulletman did though. Not having Media Edition I cannot help in detail. The subject has been covered in detail in most Palm forums. Search this forum and you can check rabroad and 1src too. If you also search for posts by Heather Cullen at rabroad it may be a quick resolve. She works at PalmOne.

Be patient and sarch a bit and it'll be up in no time.

I have been running my TX with Palm Desktop on my Windows XP Media for about 3 months with zero problems. Not to say that I won't have any, but right now, there have been none.

Thanks for the replies. Since posting my original note, I've checked with Palm, which says the Desktop is not compatible with XP Media. Every time I set it up, it opens, only to shut down. No one has given any advice as to what the glitch might be. I've been using Palm Desktop for years - as long as it has been around - and I've never had a problem. I've set it up on XP Home at home and XP Pro at work.

I would like some info on the possible reason for the problem. I'll check the forums suggested, but I've already checked rabroad, and someone there said to give up on using PD with XP Media. I've decided to use Agendus instead, but I'd still like to get to the bottom of what's happening. I wonder if it's something simple that I'm missing. Thanks for your time...

This issue is somewhat hardware dependent. In my surfing certain configurations seem that they won't allow the program to work.

I have an HP 7170n Media Center and I'm running a T5 on it with Palm Desktop. However, the only way I got it to recognize it was to disable the Media Center startup so that Windows XP launched without Media Center running.

You're not the only one having the problem - and would have thought that Palm would have had a patch out but I guess they figure that people who purchase Media machines are using them for home entertainment and not as a video PC, which I what I'm doing with mine.

I'd bet if you tweaked the USB handler in the Device Manager - you'd get it to recognize the device.

I appreciate the info and it's nice to know that I'm not alone. I don't use that computer very much, but I wanted to be able to hotsynch my Palm to it once in awhile. Right now I'm using Agendus, which is fine. I was just surprised to see the glitch I encountered. The computer does recognize the Palm and runs other Palm related stuff - Docs to Go and other programs. But I might try your suggestion of changing the startup - thanks...

Welcome to the machine, indeed... gotta love that old Floyd...

That quote seems appropriate and considering it was said some 20 years before the Internet....well more appropriate.

Good luck with this issue, caused by the "Machine".

I've tried turning off Media Center for startup (it already was) and configuring as suggested (which I already was) and still my HP with Media Edtion locks up when I try to install Palm Desktop. This is very poor service by Palm in my opinion not to support a popular Windows platform like Media Center. Why not a patch? Why not more information from Palm other than "Media Center is not supported."? After being a Palm User from nearly Day 1, I am very frustrated by this lack of consideration for a lot of users.
