I've recently moved into a new property, the previous owner did some decoration to brighten things up. I have noticed some of the gloss on the doors and skirting is starting to flake in many places. The new paint isnt actually gloss its a kind of mid sheen gloss (I found an old tin). If I scratch the new paint with my finger nail it easily flakes off showing its not sticking to the surface.
How can I remedy this problem? IM assuming I will have to sand the old paint off and start again? IM going to use an electric sander but what grade of sandpaper should I use. What kind of gloss paint should I use to ensure good adhesion, I want a real gloss not a mid sheen/matt finish. I understand there are water and oil based gloss paints, so which should I use?
