Painted wood paneling to look old?

I have wood paneling in my downstairs on 3 walls and drywall on the 3rd (I know, not my choice) I wanted to decorate like the Sea and wanted to do the paneling a darker blue, then a second coat of cream and buff through some of the cream to see the blue. Would this work? Is this how you get the "old weathered" look to wood? I can't replace the paneling at the moment so that is not an option. Thanks!

If it's real wood, then wire brush it and get a dark stain and apply then wipe off excess. This is the easiset way to achieve the weathered look. If it's that veneer paneling crap then I don't know what to tell you. I know Lowe's or another box store has little pamplets that show you how to get weathered look. Ask one of them in paint dept they may know.
