Paintball Gun Ion or Ion Xe?

Should I get the Ion or the Ion Xe from Smartparts. I am just starting paintball and i want to do tournaments and a little woodsball occasionally I want to get an ion or ion xe because i heard the spyder electra was illegal for tourneys. What upgrades should i get for the ion or ion xe that will help performance. Or should i get a diff. gun and with what upgrades.
