i started experiencing back pain in 2002 and i was adviced by a nurse to sleep on the floor. since then l have been sleeping on the woolen carpet without any pains. now l have to be in school and so had to sleep on a bed in the domitory and the pain is even worse. i now feel it from my neck down to my waist.does that mean i can ever sleep on a bed? i have been reading about orthopardic mattresses but i am not getting it. please what is wrong with me.

I wish someone could tell you what is wrong but I think you will need a doctor to do that. Could be that you just sleep better on hard material but that doesn't have to mean on the floor itself. I really would consult a dr. to be sure there isn't anything serious going on.

I would advice you to look for posteur paedic bed. It is hard but comfortable as well. It has been approved by the orthopaedic board. I had discectomy and fusion 10 weeks ago. I could not ask for a better bed than this one

I can't say for sure, but it sounRAB like you might have problems with the discs in your spine. I know I used to dread going to bed at night because my back would start hurting then. I had MRI's done on my neck and lower back and was found to have "degenerative disc disease" in my neck and osteosrthritis in my lower back.
I read that if a person puts a pillow between their knees and then benRAB their knees, then it puts less pressure on the back. I also got a special pillow I ordered that is supposed to help my neck....

Could you do something like get some carpet and put it on top of your bed? Something that would make the top of your bed harder?

I suggest that you do to a doctor and tell him or her about your problem. Maybe the doctor could explain why sleeping on the floor is helping better than I can. And maybe you can find out what is actually wrong with your back.

So sorry you're having to deal with this. I know from experience that it isn't any fun.
