I'm a 54 yr old woman. I've had back problems for years. Without going into all the different things I've tried, chiro, massage etc. I wanted to see if anyone had any idea as to why I get hard painful knots all over my back by doing pretty simple things. For the last two days I've been removing old wallpaper, it's not particularly strainuous, there is some repeticious movement and reaching. Especially while reaching, it is extremely painful at the muscles going from my shoulders to my neck. They get rock hard and feel like a hot knife is going into them. Today I feel like a truck hit me, I can't hardly get off the couch. I am a very active hanRAB on kind of person and love hard work, and this really affecting being able to get things done. I'm not overweight and take good care of myself.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should be doing to maybe make this better? Thank you.

KIt sounRAB like you are having muscle spasms, hence the knotting up. YOu must be having nerve compression that is making the muscles act up.

I would get into a doctor and get this checked out. What you need is muscle relaxers to get them to settle down. That and rest. You can't just keep pushing until you get the muscles settled down and calm again....

Thank you Ibake, I know I often push myself too hard. When I'm hurting I'll keep working because I just want to get it done. I know I should rest it when it gets really bad, but it happens so often I feel like I'd never get anything done, it's extremely frustrating.
