i have got a strong thumping pain in one spot in my back i can feel it thumping through my stomach too. it lasts about an hour each time. what could this be?

is this 'sensation" at all 'rhythmic' in nature? do you ever feel like it is mimicing your heartbeat in any way shape or form? just strictly as a precaution,i would see your primary doc for a chest x ray, simply to rule out the possibility of an abdominal aortic aneurysm. this is just a very remote, but still real possibility for the way you described what you are feeling. it just neeRAB to be checked for any possible enlargement, which in most cases, would tend to show upon chest x ray. there are other more in depth types of testing that can also be done, but just looking for possible enlargement there would be a start. also having an x ray on your thorasic area would show any possible herniations that "could" concievably also cause the back pain and possibly any real innner pain too, its all within the actual dermatomes that any given nerve aactually innervates. but i would see your doc about this and at the very least, try and rule out that AAA right now. just as a precaution. in alot of cases, the ONLY real symptom of this IS mid or upper back pain, thats it(it is the "thumping' type of pain you described that makes me want to just tell you to have this ruled out). considering you are also having pain inside that same area, well, better safe than sorry with this type of issue, ya know? this is just 'one" possibility. there is a very good reason why they call the AAA a silent killer. you may have one, not know it til it either just gets found upon a scan or til it actually bursts. it is just a risky conditon that you need ruled out. once you know that, you can move onto other possible issues for the symptoms, but personally, having had a "suprise" brain aneurysm that gave me no real head pain, well, these little suckers are just not always fully symptomatic and can pop out right into an artery, at any time. just see your doc about this.

hopefully this is a very simple easily explained type of problem. but certain things should just be ruled out, espescially if you have any high risk type of habits or there is any predisposistion in your family history for risk factors as well. age is also a possible factor too but not always. i do wish you luck and hope this is not what it could be. but do get it at least evaluated and checked out. please keep me posted. marcia
