Hello all,

Last July, I woke up one morning with the most intense pain I've ever felt, coming from my lower back. I never had back pain before. I'm a 25 year old overweight female.

I went to the Dr and he said I had sprained a ligament in my back, that it happens to people all the time. He said even something as small as "breathing funny" could cause it. He gave me some mild muscle relaxers and prescription ibuprofen to treat it. It took about a month to go away completely, as the Dr. had predicted.

About 9 months went by, and about a week ago, the same exact thing has happened. One day I started feeling stiffness in my back, and when I woke up the next morning, I could hardly move because of the pain.

I had some medicine leftover from last time and I've been taking it and and trying to stay as active as possible. It has gotten a LITTLE better over the past couple of days, but starting yesterday, I've noticed that my pelvic muscles and my leg muscles feel very weak. This is something I didn't experience last time. The pain I feel in my legs and hips are small shoots of pain, and they happen when I'm sitting or walking. The back pain I have usually only hurts when I need to move (sit down, stand up, get out of bed, walk straight, etc...).

Has anyone else had these symptoms collectively before? I am a little worried because my mother had degenerative back disease along with Spondylolisthesis. At the age of 45 she had to have fusion surgery. But she never had any of the conventional treatments (shots, etc), just pills that she became addicted to.

I was going to see theDr. last week, but I can't afford it at the moment. I was going to give it some more time before I go. In the meantime, I'm just looking around, doing some research, and getting some advice.

Any is appreciate it!

Thanks.

You can read up on sciatica, and also pinformis syndrome (hope I spelled that last one right) as it sounRAB like syatica, it may not be that bad but the beginning of it, as you're getting shooting pains, try laying on your back with a pillow under your knees and use a heating pad and see if that helps, also, as long as your not on other meRAB, you can try just ibuprophin, as its a pain reliever AND anti inflammatory, tylenol has no anti inflammatory in it, and maybe that will help if there's any irritation from inflammation going on back there.

Even though with inflammation heat is usually NOT the best thing, it can help if you're not experiencing throbbing in you back currently, and it will help if it's muscular. The meRAB will probably still work that you have, just alittle weaker as they're prob almost a year old.

Feel better!! If it persists, and/or gets worse (like you cant hardly get up and stay that way-or the pain down your leg gets so bad you have trouble walking and it affects your gait), he will most likely order a MRI, which can cost about 700$ or more I believe, if it's your discs thats the only way to see it- doesn't show up on X-rays.
