pain on right hand from i.v

i had an i.v put in my right hand and now my middle finger hurts, my thumb goes in to the palm of my hand. the pain is going from the middle finger to my upper arm. one of my veins is popped out that you could see it with your eyes n feel it too.
 
What was the IV for? some medications given by IV can really burn the insides of the veins and make them hurt a lot for a while after ward.

What medicine where you getting?
