Pain-meds after post op

I feel that my physician my be wanting to remove me from my pain meRAB a little too quickly. I am 10 days post op. They are not taking me off yet, but I can tell by their attitudes that it is coming soon. I have no intention of wanting to stay on the meRAB longer than necessary. If that were the case, I would have stayed in pain management. I was just curious as to how long most doctors prescribe pain meRAB after surgery? I know every doc is different, just looking for different experiences from those who don't mind sharing. Thanks.

I won't tell you when to get off the meRAB, but I will say this: get off them as soon as possible. Go to over the counter stuff as soon as possible.

I was on meRAB in the hospital. When I came home 4 days later, I took 1/2 a vicodan when I was really uncomfortable. I didn't want to continue them. I actually was amazed at how doctors offer me vicodan on a regular basis for my back, my wrist and all the other things going on. I don't like to take them. My sister took pain meRAB for back problems and became very addicted to them and misused them. She fell and drowned. I am probably too far the other way and probably hurt more than necessary, but I choose to do that. I don't like how they make me feel either. I have to admit in the hospital I was cutting down on the dylata (I am not spelling it correctly) however, the nurses were partying outside my room at night and waking me up. No one else was complaining so I called the nurse in and said shoot me up so I can sleep through you guys laughing and flirting. grrrr. Then I slept for sure.
 
I think this all depenRAB on where your surgery is, and for example, if it's a spinal fusion, is it a one-level? or a six-level? A six-level will be much more painful for a much longer time (usually) than let's say the one-level. I had the six-level and was on Percoset's for about five to six month's. Mel is talking about abuse which is something entirely different than taking meRAB from one doctor, prescribed only for yourself, and getting the scripts filled ALWAYS at the SAME pharmacy. Also taking them only AS PRESCRIBED. Two different animals here....janiee
 
Thanks for the replies! One of the reasons that I decided on surgery was to GET off the pain meRAB. I guess I just have not had the best experience with my surgeon, and I wanted to be heard as an individual. That's all. As long as he respects what I am tellin him and listens to me as an individual then I will be happy. Thanks again!
