Pain in side of pelvis

I'd say the cramping is more near my leg...it's right above my pubic area and a little off to the left. And I know I was born about six weeks premature, so perhaps that could have done something?

I also can't really tell if the lump can be moved around because it's so small. And the pain...how can I say it...it kind of feels like a menstrual cramp, only not in the center of my groin. It's not horrifying pain, but it did kind of just start out of nowhere (again) a few days ago. When I got the pain before also, the pain kind of just appeared and then disappeared after about a week.

The lump also feels pretty close to the surface...I'm not sure how far in my ovaries would be, so I have no idea what I'm comparing the distance to. I can't really push it anywhere either; it's just sort of 'there'. I'm wondering if a hernia would cause this kind of on-and-off pain. One thing that stuck out to me was the femoral hernia being described as being usually about the size of a grape...that's about what size mine is.

I *might* have a chance to go to a women's clinic later in the month...perhaps an exam would tell me whether or not I'm dealing with a cyst or a hernia. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get there, but I'll see what they can do for me.

I just have symptoms of each one and it's confusing me. I don't think hernias cause period problems, but I also don't think cysts can be felt through the skin. It's weird. But thanks very much for your insights, tUrRrRa. :)

Yeah, it will definitely be hard to tell for sure! I hope you are able to see someone soon so at least you don't have to worry about it. Perhaps there is a low-cost clinic that wouldn't be too expensive for you to visit without using insurance, such as a Planned Parenthood.

I can say that my hernias would probably be larger than grape sized, but not sticking out very much. They are wider, but flatter, if that makes sense. If I were to wear a bikini, they would be covered by the bikini bottoms completely, and are not large enough to cause any abnormal looking bumps. This is why I never realized it was an issue! I am glad I asked about it so I can prevent any further complications though. My hernias do not hurt at all, but this is because they are able to be reduced (pushed back). If they didn't push back in, they would likely have some pain. I did feel some discomfort when I did some inner thigh exercises and seemed to strain the area. I also feel pressure in the area and some symptoms, but not necessarily pain. I take the birth control pill, so I don't have any period issues. I actually started the pill as a teen because I always had irregular periods and would get very bad stomach aches where I'd be vomiting often. So, I take the pill to prevent that, take them regular, and now for birth control.

I can't say I'm 100% sure about how far in the ovarian cysts would be located, so that's definitely a good question for a doctor. Maybe if they are large enough, you'd be able to feel them closer to the surface. That's a good sign that you aren't feeling very severe pain, so likely whatever the issue is, it's not an emergency. Even if it's not an ovarian cyst, it's possible to be some other kind of cyst. Cysts can often cause pain and often are not able to be pushed anywhere. They can also fluctuate in size. Maybe it's just a coincidence that you have them in a similar area as to where ovarian cysts or hernias can be.

I wish you the best of luck and hope you can talk to someone in the near future to get a more definite answer! A doctor will definitely need to observe and feel the area to give you a better answer!

Well whatever was causing the pain quit being painful, which is good. Hopefully it regresses for a few months like it always does. I don't know, maybe it was just a weak muscle that keeps getting injured.

Aw well. Thanks very much for your detailed replies, tUrRrRa. I appreciate the insights very much. :)

No problem! I am very glad to hear that the pain went away. Maybe it was just a groin muscle pull, which can cause pain and swelling. I forgot to mention that this is another thing that can have some similar symptoms in that area. Even without doing any kind of new exercise, it's possible to somehow strain a muscle, just moving around or even in your sleep! I'd just keep an eye on it for now. If anything gets worse, then that's a good time to ask a doctor about it. Just keep a close eye on it!

I wouldn't be surprised if I pulled something while sleeping since I seem to do gymnastics in my sleep. :) I can't count how many times I end up sprawled across my queen-size bed with my spine and legs twisted at odd angles, or going to bed fully clothed and waking up nearly naked due to somehow disrobing while sleeping.

Hopefully the pain stays away for a while.
