Pain and Anger in the Form of a Scratch

So I've spend the winter taking apart my 748 to powder coat the frame again (same colour, but not faded due to a gas leak). The parts are back, I started putting the bike back together, but noticed on small (read: freaking huge) problem (links to pictures due to large size).

a little closer we see ...

After I drank a case of beer to ease the pain, I started thinking about what to do. I called the powder shop and they can fix it, however it'll take up to two weeks, putting me in to June before I'm riding. I've thought about a custom Ducati sticker on both sides to hide the issue.

I guess what I'm asking for is ideas. I'm not sure I want to wait another two weeks, plus take it apart again, but I'm not sure I want to live with that mark there. Other the other hand, am I just being a nut about the whole thing? I put a lot of hours in to prepping it for paint, and $500 in to the powder coating job as well.

If it helps, you can see more pictures of the whole project at http://www.linuxgeneration.org/pics/DucatiProject/

Look like I found someone to share my pain:

Sorry for you misfortune

I to have considered stickers or decals, but that only hides the problem. Then I thought about doing it myself, but I was afraid it wouldn't come out right. So, I decide to order another upper fair.

It will cost about the same as your repair, $450, but at least it will give me the piece of mind knowing it wasn't there anymore.

It's your bike and your means to escape! With that said, do what you have to in order to keep it in prestine condition!

oh my god that thing is huge, you shuold throw it out and get a new one! ........

have you thought about a pair of carbon frame guards, i dont have them on my bike but ive seen them on ebay theyre just carbon tubes that cover the top part of your frame? ask fister he seems to have all the carbon goodies cheap

A very good idea, thanks! Oddly enough I discovered that the rubber bands that hold the wiring to the frame actually cover the scratch. However I think I'll still check out those covers
