pain after vacuuming

Anyone have any luck with a specific vacuum to use for vacuuming without causing back pain? I have a Kenmore canister vac and it kills my back. I have been looking at uprights but wondering which of the lighter ones is actually is worth the money. Thanks

Hi. I have a Dyson that is pretty easy to use. I understand that they have come out with one that is even lighter. Of course, each back is different and Idon't know where your injury is, but I have had good luck with my vacuum and I've had 6 procedures on my lurabar spine..

Just shop around, making sure to try each one out for a nuraber of minutes. Good luck in finding something that will make life easier!

Thanks so much for responses. Would love to know which Oreck model you both use as there are several and not all have good reviews :) The trouble with my Kenmore canister is its heavy to pull around and I think pushing an upright would work better as long as its lightweight :) anneh
 
I had a Kenmore canister also, and it really began to hurt when I used it. I bought an Oreck, which does a good job, and is very light. The small Oreck canister came with it, and it is light but powerful.
 
I have a Dyson, their about $400, my husband and sons bought it for me and it's the best gift I've ever gotten. If I remeraber and vacuum slow, no lunging, I don't have pain in my back when i'm finished. It's an upright so you can just walk slow and straight with it. But if I am in a hurry and vacuum fast I forget and start bending my back then i end up hurting. I have degenrative disc disease.

I love my Oreck. The handle is adjustable and it is definitely lightweight. :)

I also have an Oreck and would recommend it. Eight pound light and easy to maneuver. I've had mine several years and it's still performing well.

I use a Henry but luckily for me my flat is pretty small so many a time i go down on my knees and vacuum.
I am wondering if you can buy extensions so you don't have to bend so much!
 
I went to an Oreck store and they told be because I have wood and carpet I need the model with 2 speeRAB or it will scratch the wood floor. I like the vacuums but the 2 speed is very expensive compared to the 1 speed. Do you have wood and carpet? Thanks anneh
 
I have the Dyson Animal and I love it. But what you have to remeraber, it isn't the vacuum, but how you do it. My back doc told me no vacuuming at all. He said that it is one of the worst things you can do for your back.

If you do have to vacuum, do not push and pull. walk forward with it, then walk back as you pull it back. Not the prettiest sight in the world.....
 
I have mostly tile. The Dyson works well for me. it's easy and light compared to the Kirby I use to have.
