I was wondering if anyone out there knows how much pain to expect after an epidural for back pain? I had three done today and I am in a considerable amount of pain. Also I was wondering how long it would take to start feeling some relief from the epidurals?

Hi, you will feel a temporary increase in pain for around 2 to 3 days and then you should see some improvement if they are going to work for you.

Good luck and I pray your pain settles down soon.

I am glad you asked this concern because I could be getting an epitural sometime down the line.I am due to have Botox injections in my lower back for DDD first.Hopefully they will help.If they don't then they will try epidural injections.

Early on when I hurt my back I got these done to me and what has been said is what happened to me.
But then it started to wear off after a long time my first lasted 6 months of a rather good life. But I still needed to take tablets to keep going.
Then it totally wore off and I was in for another one. And this one lasted half the time. And then another. This one had wore off by the time I was back in the hospital ward.
I don't want to put the dampener on it, but this is what happened to me. And I thought that you should know.
But I'm now due for my next operation but they are trying their best to stop it as I'm a public patient. But they expect you to live with the pain each day.
My hope is that it works for you and lasts a long long time.

HEAT WRAP, HEAT WRAP, HEAT WRAP! When I had my epidural I couldn't do anything for myself, meaning get up or down, get dressed. I went to the medical walk in at my hospital and they didn't want to give me anything to relax my muscles which were is spasm because of the shot, they told me I was allergic to muscle relaxers and suggested a heat wrap. I thought it was a load of bologna but bought one any way and OOOOOOOO what relief! I always keep some on hand! If you have a Wal Mart or drug store you should be able to find it there. Feel better soon and hope it works for you as it did for me!:)

I had two injections and the were both painful for the 1st day. I used a heating pad that seemed to help. Unfortunately the shots didn't take away the original pain in my lower back. I just had surgery last week. I hope it goes better for you.

good luck Cjr 74

During 3 years i had 9 lurabar epidurals. I had a very hard time with it. Pain levels always increased significantly and lasted for about 5-7 days. I couldn't sleep at all, my position was on a stomach with a nice soft big pillow under.

I don't know why i had such a reaction, but we all very different and reaction to all treatments or tests is different too.

Good luck to you, hope it will work great!
