Paid my "photo-cop" ticket

This has gone quite a bit off topic from the OP comment about sending in pennies to pay the fine, but as to the topic of red light cameras that the use of seems to have upset some members, should it matter if the fine for the illegal act is just $1.00 or if it is $1,000.00? Does that make running the light any less (or more) illegal judging on the amount of the fine? For me (and I admit that I am biased for what I feel is a good reason) it is still wrong. If you run the red light, that is an illeagal act no different than speeding regardless of how the offense was documented. I remember back in the 1960s when the California Highway Patrol started using unmarked cars (non black & white) to patrol the highways causing drivers to be unhappy saying it wasn't 'fair'. Then there were those that didn't like radar being used for speeding as it wasn't 'fair'. It is TECHNOLOGY, get used to it and get over it. When you decide to either speed or to run a red (or even a yellow) light is a calculated risk. Sometimes you will get caught, and most times you don't.

As to the cameras being a 'trap' or used for a revenue generator, would it be better for gas taxes, vehicle or driving license fees, or to be doubled or tripled instead? Everything in life is either about money or in the end power.

In the end if you don't like red light cameras, don't run the red light. When you see the light is yellow, PAY ATTENTION and stop. It is as simple as that. Not only is it safer for you, it is also going to be safer for me as I may be the one waiting off around the corner for the light to go to green.

I'm agreeing, except about the money and power bit in this case. Anyone who doesn't think it's about safety should watch this video - ESPECIALLY the end!!!

WOW...in a matter of three days we've gone from humor, to legal speed/RL rules, to injury/death threats, etc... The OP was just trying to relay some humor IRT paying a RL camera fine & it was all in good humor. Sometimes we just need to lighten up...and...no I'm not bashing anyone, or anything relating to RL cameras, runners & legalities. I saw the OP's humor & thought it was...funny.

What's it matter, its the principle of him causing them some crap maybe, in trying to deposit it.

However, isn't it illegal to send CASH through the mail? I always thought it was,, maybe he "Fed Ex'ed" it?

You have to prove what was in the box? You could have sent them some lead fishing weights,, instead of 7500 pennies,,,

Don't get me wrong, I still love that he did it!

My pet "Peeve" is the inconsistency OF the length of yellow lights,
Also the city I live in has now put "Count down" signs under the lights, I really don't know what they are for at all. Pedestrians? So vehicles will know the light is getting ready to turn? Who knows...

The thing is, some intersections it will go yellow JUST as soon as it get's to zero,, others it takes another 5-8 seconds to change!
So we can't use those to judge even,,, cause if we start slowing down when it get's to 1,,, it may stay green for another 5 seconds...
Stupid if you ask me,,,,

Nope,, not at all, infact it takes the picture of the rear of the vehicle, to get the plate number,,,,,

Like mentioned above, they go after the registered owner, unless the vehicle is reported stolen. They figure you will know who is driving it at any given time..

Don't get me wrong, I don't like them, nor approve of them, nor feel they are legal. But that is just how it works in Missouri.

I have beaten one though, the only one I have received!
I was turning "Right on the red" in my wifes car. They also post a video of you on a website you can go to when you get the ticket in the mail.

I did come to a VERY NEAR complete stop.. but not for any 3-4 seconds,
I went to the Station where I got it from, had an officer look at it with me, I asked him,,
"Sir, if you were setting across from me, or even behind me when I did that. Would you have given it a second look?"

He said, I doubt it,,, I asked how to "Fight" it, he told me to take this form, send it in with an explanation and the Prosecuting Atty would review it. I got a letter a few weeks later saying it was thrown out.

The companies that run these things, review the footage first, if they see anything they send it to the city that it belongs to. Then they have a "Motor officer" do a further review of it to issue the citation.
I know that the companies are going to send EVERYTHING they can muster, because they get a "Cut" of the take..... and maybe some of the reviewing officers are less than diligent in taking out the questionable ones?

Yes, they do issue it, at least here in Mo. Look at my other post. A civilian company, does not issue the ticket. They have no authority to do so, and it would be easy to beat. The camera "Footage" gets sent to the city, and a motor officer reviews it.
