I have a 1998 Toyota 4 runner. It has about 103,000 miles on it.
About a week ago I noticed the time clock light was dimming in and out and would have a low dim where I'd barely be able to read it I thought this could be the battery going dead or a fuse.
Two days ago I took my car to the shop, The battery was just above the line where it fit "good" in the reader they used. I was told the battery was "ok" even though to me it it look like it was right on the line between good and fair on the unit they used to test it. They checked the fuses, no problems.
I was then told the problem was the alternator. It cost $275!!! That's a lot to pay when the car was running fine, but the guy told me it's a 'sign' the alternator was going out when the light was dimming.
The time light showed up again when I left, but now it's two days later and it dimmed out again!!! This is what it did BEFORE the new alternator.
What can I do if what they did did not fix the problem?
I am mad because it's clear buying a new alternator didn't fix the problem. What can I do at this point?
If I go in there and still want the problem fixed, I won't be able to get any money back from the new alternator right? The machanic basically told me that the dimmed lights were a sign and if I waited for the alternator to compeletly stop working, the car wouldn't run at all and I could be stuck someplace.
Court? For $275??
