...topic being discussed? If you do....Is it because you're a Pagan and therefore you feel obligated to answer?

(Trying to understand a phenomenon, here, help me out.)

No, I only answer if I:
a.) know the answer or a helpful source or if I think I can contribute somehow
b.) find it funny or silly enough to justify a stupid answer

otherwise I just star it for my contacts, hopefully one of them will know the answer.

Like Tahuti, I also starred the Finnish pagan question and said that I was. If I don't know something, I'm guessing or not sure of my memory, I say so.

I have seen some answers from Wiccans and pagans that are just REALLY off base.

Maybe we could all agree to cite sources when we can or something? I don't know.

If I don't know anything about the topic I generally don't answer... unless they quesion hasn't had any serious or helpful answers. Then I might answer to say that I'm not sure what the answer is but I'll star it. I also might answer things I'm not completely sure about but have enough of an idea to provide some direction - like toss out a link or a book recommendation. Again, I'm more likely to do this if the answer hasn't recieved any serious or accurate answers.
For example, I answer questions directed at Celtic Recons all the time though I'm not CR. I do this because they often get few responses and they usually want info on something that I do have information on.

But you know what, I just realized I'm probably doing what you're talking about right now. I've probably missed some discussion or something. Usually, I think I know what I'm talking about.

not if I have no idea of what I am talking about!!
Not only do I not want to come off as ignorant, I do not want to give any false info. that wouldn't be fair for the ones who are actually interested in Paganism.

Yes. and sometimes I 'star' them so another with more info on that topic will answer. (i.e. There's one on 'Finnish Paganism' which I know nothing about, so I starred and said that, hopefully someone knows something about that and will see the star)

Not usually. I don't normally answer questions addressed to pagans or any other spiritual path if related to a topic I know nothing about. (i.e. I've read the Bible but I'm no expert on it, so I don't usually answer questions about the Bible unless sometimes when they're asking for an opinion. But for the most part, I leave those Christian questions to the Christians.)

Back to the pagans and related topics - If I know a little bit on the topic, or it sparks my interest, I may voice my opinion, with the preface of "it is my understanding" or something like that to what I state that I believe to be factual - like I did with a question about Freemasonry the other day. I have a friend that is a Freemason but I know very little about it.

Like Tahuti - sometimes I'll give a quick, "would like to help, but this isn't my area" kinda response and star the question so that my contacts will see it as one or more of them may have better answers, or I'll just star it and not throw in an answer if I'm in a hurry.

See that's the weird thing. Sometimes I don't know enough on the topic yet when I type it helps them and me. It makes me decide if I really need to look into that particular subject more or if I need to just let it go.

If they aren't getting answers then I will try to answer it the best of my ability and star it so others who do know may be able to give them a better answer.

For me, the category does not matter. If I don't know (or at least have a pretty good idea) I don't answer. If I can't provide an intelligent answer I try to avoid it. Occasionally I may mis-read something, but not often. There is never any obligation to answer, especially if the answer isn't in some way helpful.
What I find funny is that there are a few Christians on here who "feel obligated" to answer any question regarding anything related to "pagan".

I very rarely answer a Wiccan question unless I get it, or it the same freaking question that has been asked 2 million times and we ALL know the answer.
Or I just admit I don't know but I have a theory.
