pacman experts, a question for you. Can ghosts turn around in the original game?

I bought pacman for my mobile phone, verizon to be exact, anyways in this game a ghost can be going one direction, then all of a sudden it will move backwards so essentially its not safe to follow the ghost. Does this happen in the original arcade game?
