P90x Weight Gain vs The Gym?

Does P90x work with gaining muscle mass? Or does it only help you to lose it?
I'm 16 years old
5"10 and I'm hoping to try to gain 10-20lbs of muscle
Would p90x do help with that? Or should I just go to the gym 3-4 times a week?
Also, would mixing the work outs help? Like 3 days a week go to the gym, and the rest do the cardio work outs?
&& What Vitamins & Supplements would help with gaining this mass for my age?
I'm really looking into getting fit & gaining weight before summer starts!
