Overnight hiking trail question?

Some of my friends and I are contemplating an overnight hiking trip that entails camping along the path. We are just graduated from high school and most of us are 18 but a few are 17 including myself. My question is in particular, whether or not we are required to obtain a license of sort, or anything of that nature for camping overnight, or hiking a long distance. Also if anyone knows how long these particular trails are in length that would be beneficial.
I was thinking about this trail in North Georgia specifically Jacks River Trail....and it is supposedly 16 miles...does that mean it is 16 miles one way...or back and forth?

I'd have to know where you are hiking before I can tell you how long your trail is. No license required, but you may want to talk to a park ranger or a game commission officer before starting a fire.
