Overdrawn???!

Yep. Banks are a drag, and all other options need to be explored. I also use an account at a credit union, which seems to be a bit more "reliable" than a regular bank.

Our bank will count a debit on the day it was incurred (like a Saturday) but won't count a deposit until the next business day (Monday). WTF? Even on-line banking seems to vary, based on the dates and times they post a transaction, not necessarily when we actually did it.

If you keep your account, Magnolia, can you have everything sent to you at school? Instead of your parent's house?

I can, but then I'd have to keep changing it every year since my address will change every year. I think I'm just going to get my statments sent to my e-mail address. I was able to finally get into my online checking and that was an option. I may take it, but then I'll have to print them out all the time for recording purposes, which would suck. I don't know. Maybe I'll just bury my money in an old glass jar in the back yard. Seems safe enough to me.

You need to keep a checking account. It helps build credit if you don't overdraw it. Also if you have the records to back up that you didn't overdraw your account then by all means fight the overdraft with the bank. Over drafts hurt your credit.

Yeah Yeah I know that you probably don't have any use for credit now but if you start building it now then when you do get ready to use it you will get better rates if your credit is good. Oh and even the price of your car insurance can be affected by your credit rating.

I know. That's why I got the checking account. And I figured it out, I shouldn't be overdrawn. I should have had two cents left. But I can't prove it. *sigh* This is only the second time ever that I've overdrawn an account. My credit shouldn't be that horrible because of it. And the last time I overdrew it was almost 4 years ago. So I'm still doing pretty well I think. This will all clear up and things will be fine.

This is why i keep $500 in savings with an overdraft protection option in place. go Wachovia (scumbags, all of them). I'm personally amazed i have that much money as a college student, but eating for free 5 days a week (working at a food court) probably had something to do with it.
